General Guidelines

General Guidelines
Passing Criteria
  • You have to pass both papers individually i.e. 75% in each paper.
  • There is no negative marking at any stage. There is a myth that for repeaters there is negative marking, it is not true.
  • There are no specific marks for each question. It depends on the difficulty level. Some questions might be of 0.5 marks and some might be of 2 marks etc.
Appearing in the exam
  • CPSP announces its annual schedule in which dates are mentioned.
  • The Schedule of each attempt is notified separately.
  • These are four attempts throughout a year usually February-March, April, September-October, and November.
  • You can appear maximum in three attempts.
General Points
Time Duration
  • 3-4 months: If you are doing the job or household work and you can manage to study 5 to 6 hours daily.
  • 2 months: If you are not doing any job and you can manage to study 8-10 hours daily.
General Preparation
  • Take a paper and start plotting your preparation timeline.
  • Choose a list of books which you are going to read. This selection should be according to your schedule, consistency level, mode of study and revision schemes. Doing theory and past questions is a must. Choose books for theory and past questions after consultation with your seniors. I will also mention books for each subject.
  • Usually, there are two strategies. Some students prepare the theory first and do past questions in the end. Some students prepare theory and past questions side by side. You can adopt it as per your choice.
  • Paper – I is the same for all specialties and paper – II is specialty-specific.
  • Books for preparation of paper – I should be selected according to the paper – II. I will explain it in each specialty.
  • Read the syllabus first. Some topics can be done from different books.
